The First Musgrave Spinal Care Injury Unit Boccia Competition

Fri 1st December 2017

The inaugural Boccia competition in partnership with Musgrave Park Hospital Spinal Care Injury Unit, Disability Sport NI and Live Active NI took place yesterday in the Mitre Gym within the hospital with 5 teams in total taking part in a round robin basis.

The players in the Spinal Care Unit have been playing Boccia regularly at the Thursday afternoon sports club set up through Disability Sport NI's Active Clubs programme and supported by Every Body Active 2020 Officers.

The eventual winners of the competition were Hot Wheels, who led by Enniskillen's Ben Hassleman showed remarkable skill and composure to win all of their games including a nail biting last game which they won by the narrowest of margins 5-4.

Very well done to all of the players and thank you to everyone involved in facilitating the competition including Carmel Lavery, Julie Grant, Julie Morton & Eilis Coleman from Musgrave Park Hospital & Odhran Doherty, Terry Conroy and Davy Purdy from Disability Sport NI and Live Active NI.
