Visual Impairment Tennis Tournament Results

Northern Irish players from the Windsor VI Tennis Club recently played against the Shankhill Tennis Club in Dublin in a friendly Tournament.

Name of players and their classification:
B1 players - (Blind)
Torie Tennant
Stephen Campbell
Andrea Hope

B2 players - (Visually Impaired)
Patricia McKnight
Gary Brooker
Brian Lenehan
Debbie Shaw

The VI Tennis in Northern Ireland initially started with a 6 week taster programme at Windsor Tennis Club. This programme started a year and a half ago. Since then, the players have been training once a week at Windsor Tennis Club.

The results of the tournament are as follows:
- Ulster won the the B1 class by 1 point. Andrea Hope was the overall winner for this classification.
- Ulster won the B2 class by 1 point. Brian Lenehan was the overall winner for this classification
- Ulster and Dublin had a 6 - 6 draw in the other B2 class.
Overall Ulster beat Dublin.

Whats next?
The Ulster VI Tennis Team are training for the 'Irish National Tournament' on the 20th January 2018 which will take place in Dublin once again. If the players are successful at the Nationals, they have the chacne of competing in the World Championships in May.
This tournament was the first tournament the Ulster VI tennis players have played in and it was also the first ever tournament many of the players have played in throughout their lifetime.
