Paul McKillop was presented the Disability Sport NI ‘Club Person of the Year’ award for the sport of Wheelchair Basketball by Disability Sport NI’s Honorary President Dr Janet Gray MBE at the charity’s recent AGM.
The Disability Sport NI ‘Club Person of the Year’ Award recognises the person who has volunteered their time and worked tirelessly to ensure that their club is safe and sustainable, providing people with physical disabilities the opportunity to participate in Wheelchair Basketball.
On receiving the award, Paul comments,
“I am delighted and very proud to have won this award. I would like to point out the great work that the whole Knights committee have done. Without their hard work and support I would never have won this award. I also want to thank Disability Sport NI for giving me the award as I know there are plenty of people who would be very worthy of winning it.”
During the 2019-20 year, Paul took on the role of co-ordinating three Knights squads competing in three different leagues. This involved juggling the booking of flights, hotels and transfers for the GB league, organising Irish League fixtures and supporting the team competing in the Disability Sport NI League. In addition to this, he also planned and delivered weekly coaching sessions to all players while still fulfilling his role as club Secretary.
Paul also stepped up to provide extra support to the Chairperson and has continued to be the heartbeat of the club, encouraging and inspiring others to love the sport as much as he does.
Congratulations Paul, your passion for the sport and dedication to the club is fantastic and this is a well-deserved award.
