ParalympicsGB have announced their Wheelchair Basketball squad for Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, with Northern Irish star Katie Morrow included in the Women’s squad.

Katie will be competing at her second Paralympic Games, having previously finished in 4th position when she competed as a 16-year-old at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.  Katie and her teammates will be hoping to better this achievement as they bid to secure TeamGB’s first ever medal in Women’s Wheelchair Basketball this summer.

Penny Briscoe, Chef de Mission at ParalympicsGB for Paris 2024, commented:

“Both squads boast an impressive blend of seasoned Paralympic Games veterans and exciting debutants. Many of the men’s and women’s players have already made a significant impact on the World and European stages in recent years. Now, both squads are looking to make their own history in Paris.”

Diccon Edwards, Performance Director at British Wheelchair Basketball and Team Leader for wheelchair basketball at Paris 2024, commented:

“I am excited we have such talented squads to represent ParalympicsGB in Paris. It was incredibly hard to make the selections given the quality and depth across both squads and now the selected players have the opportunity to achieve something special for the whole group and inspire the next generation of wheelchair basketball players.”

Danny Cooper, Performance Pathway Officer for Wheelchair Basketball at Disability Sport NI, commented:

“Katie’s selection is a reward for her dedication, hard work and commitment to wheelchair basketball over the past couple of years. Katie has worked exceptionally hard and we are very proud in Northern Ireland that she has achieved this opportunity to compete at another Paralympic Games.”

“A massive thanks has to go to our funders Sport NI, National Lottery and Progressive Building Society who support the NI Wheelchair Basketball Academy which provides the opportunity for local athletes, like Katie, to train and develop so they can achieve successes like this.”

Wheelchair basketball will take place on all 11 days of competition in the Bercy Arena with fixtures starting on Thursday 29th August.
