NI Judo Federation Awarded Disability Sport NI’s Inclusive Sport Award

The NI Judo Federation has been awarded Disability Sport NI’s Inclusive Sport Award in recognition of their commitment to actively including more people with disabilities in their sport. The award was presented at a fun based adaptive judo session in Antrim involving 40 players and coaches.
Speaking at the presentation of the award Disability Sport NI Chief Executive Officer Kevin O’Neill said,
“It is a great pleasure to present the Inclusive Sport Award to the NI Judo Federation. We have been impressed at the commitment of the organisation’s small team of staff, officials and volunteers to support the inclusion of people with disabilities in the sport of judo.
“We look forward to continuing to support the inclusion work of the Federation, particularly through the development of a more inclusive workforce, a more inclusive competitor pathway and a new inclusive coaching pathway.”
Speaking after receiving the award Bill Taggart, the Chairperson of the NI Judo Federation said,
‘” Northern Ireland Judo Federation is delighted to have been awarded the Inclusive Sport Award by Disability Sport NI. We have a very enthusiastic team of coaches and members driving Inclusion forward through our newly formed Inclusive Focus Group.
“This will ensure that Inclusion is at the heart of all activities and that Judo remains a sport for all.”
Every Judo club in Northern Ireland accepts players with disabilities and NI Judo Federation welcomes new members with disabilities from across Northern Ireland. The NI Judo Federation is supported through Sport NI’s Sporting Clubs Programme.
The NI Judo Federation is only one of six Governing Bodies of Sport to have achieved the Inclusive Sport Award.
