Talented boccia players Claire Taggart and Daniel Elliott will represent Northern Ireland at the 2022 UK Boccia Championships in Swansea 14th-16th October.
After a two-year break for the UK Boccia Championships due to Covid-19, Boccia Paralympian and world number two, Claire Taggart will return as reigning BC2 champion and Daniel will make his debut at the championships in the BC3 category alongside his father and ramp assistant Billy Elliott.
Both players have had a productive year so far, with Daniel claiming top place in the Northern Ireland BC3 Championship and NI Pairs League and Claire winning her first ever World Cup medal when she remained unbeaten at the Póvoa de Varzim 2022 World Boccia Cup returning with Gold from the individual and pairs events.
Having been spotted by Boccia UK at the 2014 UK Championships, it’s an event in the boccia calendar that holds a special place in Claire Taggart’s boccia journey. Speaking ahead of this year’s championships, Claire comments,
“I very much look forward to both competing in the UK Boccia Championships in Swansea and cheering on my fellow squad member Daniel as he represents his country for the first time at the UK Championships.
“It has been a strong year for me so far having won 2 gold medals in Póvoa and a bronze medal in Rome, and I will be focused on retaining my title of UK champion.”
